Embracing Sustainability:
The Re-Use Revolution
The Re-Use Revolution was a hugely inspiring project created by the Christian Charity Renewal North West located in Shaw Heath in Stockport. As Well as initiating projects like this revolution, the Charity operates a variety of businesses such as a Used Furniture Warehouse, which assists in reducing waste within local communities. They aim to do this through encouraging the surrounding neighbourhoods to understand the enormous benefits of repurposing and sharing old resources, giving them a new lease of life. Another one of the company’s businesses is their recently founded coffee shop, Refresh, a snug and welcoming coffee shop, situated next to the furniture warehouse, with the objective of creating a pleasant environment for their customers, keeping in mind the values of the Christian Faith and again a more sustainable society.
The logo we produced
We were delighted to be asked to design a unique logo for Renewal North West’s inspirational project, and work alongside them in being able to spread their encouraging and motivating messages, with the hope of assisting them in pursuing this. They had requested a single logo that they could use as a representation of what their project involved, to be implemented on signage, print, promotional items, clothing and other merchandise such as their reusable carrier bags (there are a great way to become one step closer to being more sustainable). When creating the logo for their project, we wanted to be sure that the logo would stand out and grab the attention of locals passing by or people on the streets who saw supporters of the project carrying their bags or wearing the merch. We had to be certain in ensuring that the design we produced for the project ticked all of these boxes and helped to spread their message as widely as possible with the aim of boosting the awareness surrounding the project.
The design we developed was made from a circular emblem, created with discrete arrows, being the main symbolic feature in passing on the message of the initiative. The circular emblem around the central writing, highlighted the infinite cycle that Renewal North West believes our goods, our toys, our clothes, our furniture, our possessions have, motivating local communities to share and donate their old items. We chose to use a brightly coloured, bold purple font within the centre of the logo not only so that it would stand out but as a way of marketing the hugely positive impact participation in this project can have on everyone within the local community.
The Journey
Not only have we had great pleasure in developing a captivating logo that the Renewal North West can use to spread their powerful message, we have been on a hugely insightful journey of the immense impact that our subtle changes can have on others in need of something more. As the staff and creators of the projects and businesses at Renewal believe that ‘God gives the growth’, we have been successful in growing the positivity amongst local communities with our logo design, personalised merchandise and signage, reminding everyone of the cyclicality of aspects in life, but more importantly our belongings that can have multiple lives.
